Bees Knees Cocktail

This is truly the “Bees Knees” refreshing for sure!

Bees Knees Cocktail Recipe

The Bee’s Knees cocktail is comprised of gin, honey and lemon.  The post prohibition cocktail definitely holds true to it’s meaning it is really one of the “best” gin cocktails I’ve had. During this time in history everyone was making “bathtub gin” which in order to improve the taste they would use citrus and in this case honey to mask the taste.  You can alter the flavor just by using different gin and different flavored honey.

Bees Knees Cocktail Recipe-

Recipe: Makes 1 4oz Cocktail

  • 2 oz Prairie Organic Gin(or Bathtub)
  • 1 oz Fresh squeezed Lemon Juice
  • 1 oz Local Arizona Orange Blossom honey water*

Profile: Classic~Refreshing and Tart

Glass: Coupe

Garnish: Lemon Wheel

Make the honey water with 2 parts honey to 1 part hot water and stir. ( this dissolves the honey and makes it easier to mix in your cold drinks)

Add all ingredients to shaker with ice, shake, pour and serve up.   For a more refreshing version pour over ice and top with soda water.

This cocktail sounds very good. I’m not sure if I like gin but it’s definitely worth a try I could always substitute vodka. Have you ever tried a dillinger? It’s another refreshing cocktail traditionally with gin (I use vodka b/c I usually don’t have gin) cucumber and lemon it’s very good. I think I will pick up a bottle of gin next time I’m at the store and give it a try (any suggestions on favorite brands…that are relatively common and not too expensive?). Seen on dishfolio.

I am normally a vodka drinker as well, I’ve been trying to broaden my horizons as well. I’ve tried a few different gins that I like ~ Glorious Gin is probably my most favorite but it’s a little more on the spendy side. Farmer’s and Prairie I enjoy because they are organic, Prairie is nice and smooth also about $20 a bottle. The Dillinger is a great drink! Try it with a little St Germaine too it’s tasty!
